Abstract

The article explores the positions on education of four contemporary philosophers: Hans-Georg Gadamer, Karl Popper, Bertrand Russell and Theodor Adorno. The common thread of the exhibition consists of exploring how these four thinkers have examined the relationship between philosophy and education, taking as a common thread the concept of experience, understood as the way in which the various contents (both theoretical and practical) of our consciousness form a coherent and intelligible fabric. Taking as a starting point Gadamer, for whom education highlights the continuous and socially coherent nature of our experience, the exhibition advances to show how contemporary philosophical reflections show a concern regarding the challenges and future of education: the decomposition of experience, the disintegration of a common cultural horizon on the basis of which individuals could form and recognize themselves as participants in a culture.
